About Us

  • Coordinating with MMDs in relation to Sailing Vessels (Part XV) and Fishing Boats (Part XV-A) of Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, as and when necessary.
  • Dealing with matters related to coastal shipping including bilateral and multilateral agreements(viz BIMSTEC, Indo-Bangladesh, Indo-Myanmar) with other neighbouring countries for development of coastal shipping trade, Sailing Vessel industry, coordination on repatriation of distressed sailing vessel crew, monitoring of general administration and policy matters related to Indian fishing boats.
  • Coordinating with Regional Officer(Sails), Mumbai, Jamnagar & Tuticorin and Port Officers of Maritime Coastal States in relation to issuance of Sailing Vessel Identity Cards as per the provisions of Merchant Shipping (Sailing Vessel) Rules, 1997 and centralized system of issuance of Sailing Vessel Identity Cards from the Coastal Shipping Branch in terms of DGS Coastal Branch Circulars No.11 of 2020 dated 19.03.2020 and 30 of 2020 dated 05.08.2020.
  • Matters related to Merchant Shipping (Conditions for Carriage of Livestock) Rules, 2020, and Rules relating to Fishing Vessels
  • Closure of Registry of a Sailing Vessel
