Casualty

Casualty investigations involve examining accidents and incidents involving merchant vessels, fishing vessels, and sailing vessels registered under the Merchant Shipping Act, as well as other seagoing vessels operating in Indian ports and coastal waters. These investigations aim to determine the cause of casualties, enhance maritime safety, and prevent future occurrences. Authorities follow established national and international guidelines to ensure thorough analysis, including examining ship conditions, crew competency, and adherence to regulations. Findings from investigations contribute to policy changes and improved safety standards

Ensures the safety of crew and passengers aboard ships. It requires rigorous testing and approval of life-saving appliances. Responsibilities include:

  • Compliance with international safety regulations set by SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and IMO standards.
  • Regular inspections and certification of safety equipment.
